9th Annual Bannister Mile May 15, 2012

East High School Track May 15, 2012, 12:30

From Dave Caprera, Event Organizer...

For the last eight years now we have been celebrating that famous running achievement where Scott Hajicek paced Roger Bannister to the first sub-four minute mile.
On Tuesday, May 15th, 2012, please join us at the East High School track (16th and Josephine in east Denver) to celebrate this historic event. Those of us leaving from the Y should plan to do so at the usual time (call it noon) and plan to arrive at the track around 12:20. As we have in the past, we will run a mile for time starting around 12:30 (in multiple heats if we have enough people; in past years the numbers have been between 10 and 22 people) and then a team relay event of 8x200. Admittedly, none of us has been close to the 4 minute barrier individually, but our best relay team almost broke it one year.

It is my intent to remember 2012 with a small toast as well (however, given that we will be on the grounds of a public high school while school is in session, and the problems associated with getting a key to the track, I regret to inform the alcoholics among us that the toast will not be alcoholic.) And as has been the custom in past years, a small tasting will accompany the toast. I would propose that the toast occur after the individual and before the medley to allow everyone to recover from their harder run.

If you would please, let me know if you are able to attend. Also, please inform other running friends of ours as they are also most welcome. There are some new members of our running group for whom I do not have email addresses. Please invite them. The more the merrier.

I look forward to seeing you May 15.

Can I run a 800? Would be about the same time as your fastest, or maybe slowest, miler. :)
