2011 Colorado Relay

The Pickled Prostates ran their 7th Consecutive Colorado Relay August 26,27 from Breckenridge to Snowmass Village. 193 Miles.

The Pickled Prostates finished in 24 Hours 15 Minutes 21 Seconds, winning the Masters Division and coming in 2nd overall to the Young Guns.

We had a strong team and everyone ran well with no logistical or mechanical problems (except for Mikes window - thanks Jay).

We battled our nemesis Old Fartleks team through the first 6 Legs up and down Boreas Pass, till Mike passed them just before handing off to Patrick for Georgia Pass. Patrick killed Georgia Pass with a 1:40, which put us ahead for the race.

With the Young Guns way ahead, we battled the Weed Wackers for 2nd place for the rest of the race, with the teams staying close and the lead changing it was a fun race till the end.

With a car fire in Glenwood Springs near a crucial turn, a course diversion and confusion on the course, the Young Guns and Weed Wackers both got lost in Glenwood Springs. Dennis found his way through and finished on time, putting us a few minutes ahead of the Weed Wackers and within 10 minutes of the Young Guns.

The team closed really strong with an amazing anchor leg of 10 trail miles by Scott for a strong 2nd place finish.

Lots of course changes and confusing directions and signs, path closures , some new rules in the relay logistics and some harsh summer storms made for an interesting and fun relay for everyone, even for Mike, the Rookie who survived a bee sting and a down pour for a strong first race.
