Matt Mussetter and his Brother Mitch ran the Mount Cheaha 50K Trail Race in Alabama on February 27, 2010.
Matt and Mitch finished in 5 Hours 46 Minutes and were 26th/27th overall. 31 Miles for Matt's 31st birthday.
Matt's take on the race...
You will notice it's not exactly flat, and ther is a slight incline at mile 27 that consists of over 900 feet of climbing in about 3/4 of a mile.
That's the blog post of the woman who won the race. The photo shows the only two ladies who beat us, they are both Montrail sponsored runners and Annette is a former Western States 100 champion.
It turns out that this race was part of the Montrail Ultra Cup Series (which also includes Western States), so there were some very fast people in the crowd, including the guy who won, beating second place by 36 minutes.
The race was fun for the first three hours or so and then was just brutal. The course was very technical and very hilly. I enjoyed the first half and paid dearly in the second half (perhaps a lack of training played a role in that). I will probably take a few days off to rest and then work my way back into some shorter stuff with some speed work.
