It's not Mt. Evans, but it is Kremmling

Although I was disappointed to miss the Mt. Evans race, a few hours before we left for the weekend in Steamboat last Friday I found out about a 10 mile trail run in Kremmling on Saturday. In fact, they have a whole trail race series in Kremmling. Who knew?

I entered and ran. Here’s a brief report –

I saw Eric and Tania there. Tania is coming off of surgery so she was biking around the trails. Eric ran it and finished second (or third?) in about 1:15. I finished 6th in 1:21:41. According to my gps the course was a little short – 9.84 miles. Tania said the course was waaay long last year – the “ten” mile race was actually 12.5 or so. The race started at the north end of the town square. We went north toward the Kremmling cliffs, eventually climbing them and doing a loop on top. There were great views to go along with the several significant climbs. I was thanking my lucky stars that I joined the crew for the first Mt. Evans training run 3 weeks ago so I had at least one run at altitude in me.

The race was cheap, fun, well-organized, had a great, small town feel to it, and as a bonus, had one of the best race t-shirts I’ve seen in a while. The only downside is that I couldn’t catch the guy who was approx 45 seconds in front of me for the last 6 or 7 miles and in fact I got caught and passed at mile 9 by a guy who wasn’t a great climber but who rocketed downhill (as I gingerly picked my way down). Guess I should have done the second Mt. Evans training run…

They say they’ll post the results on line at but they aren’t up yet.
